Social Network Marketing – The Things That Marketers Should Avoid

Social media is everywhere – and this growth is expected to grow even faster and larger through the years.  Almost everyone in the world has their own social network profile – whether it be Friendster, Multiply, Myspace, Twitter, Google and of course, the ever powerful Facebook.

Because of the far-reaching capabilities of these social networking sites, and because of the billions of people all over the world using them – these sites have also become quite efficient marketing tools that one can utilize in order to promote a product that they believe in.

If you are looking for a market to cater to – seeking Facebook’s help can never be a bad thing.  In fact, it can be advantageous for you and your business.  After all, aside from the billions of subscribers that you can entice to support your product – this very popular social networking site can be quite an excellent platform where you can let the world know about your product, its features and all the benefits that can be gained from it.

However, it cannot be gainsaid that being successful in social network marketing is not as easy as pie.  There are certain strategies and things that must be carefully looked into in order to ensure that things run as smoothly as it should.  Otherwise, you might not be able to maximize the benefits that this form of marketing brings.

In other words, using these social networks to market your product is takes more than just getting people to “like” your page.  In fact, it has been found that using this strategy without using the right methods can only lead to the loss of your prospective buyers and loads of cash in revenues.

Here are some other things that you might want to keep into account when using social networks for marketing purposes:

Do Not Over-Promote

In one way or the other, you may have been probably bombarded with numerous messages, emails, invites and a lot of other “spam-like” electronic communications that promote one product or another.

Take note that though promotion can be an excellent marketing strategy, overdoing it can cause some problems in the long run.  More often than not, recipients of these spam mails and invites will get turned-off or will be fed up, resulting to them blocking you from giving them any kind of subsequent messages or invites – which will then mean eventual losses on your company’s part.

Do Not Forget To Engage With Your Clients

When someone asks you a question or if there is a query about your product in your page, then take the time to answer them.  This will give your prospective clients a sense of importance that will eventually entice them to take a look at your product and eventually buy it from you.

The usual mistake that social network marketers do is to put up invites and then once their invites are accepted - forget to respond to questions propounded to them.  This will only instill doubt on the part of your client which can then result to a wasted marketing strategy.  Remember that a gesture such as answering queries can go a long way – such as more sales on your part.

Do Not Forget To Manage Your Account

Building your social network profile is not enough.  You must at least take the time to manage it as well.  Having just a profile alone will not result to sales.  However, having a profile with all the necessary and proper information will.

If you can’t maintain your company profile yourself – hire someone to do it for you.  Add some additional pictures, blogs, notes and other information that you think are necessary to spread the word about your product.  Consider this as part of your marketing strategy that will enable you to reap the benefits thereafter.

Do Not Underestimate The Power Of Research

Once you start getting sales from your social network marketing strategy - do not stop there.  Try to do some additional research about other tools and programs that can add further hype to your marketing campaign.  This will not only ensure that you stay on top of your game, but it will also allow you to keep track of the competition as well.

These are just some things that you should keep in mind if you are interested in using social networks to market your business.  In the end, what is important is that you are able to maximize the benefits that this form of marketing offers.

  1. Like any other marketing strategy you need to go into social media with a plan and some goals.  In order to find any success it's about much more than just setting up a page and waiting for people to start following you.  You need to actually be active on the site and interact with people since that's what social media is about.
