Facebook The Social Media Site Trotting Towards Search – Does Google Have Competition In The Offing?

Recently Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco that the company already does 1 billion queries a day in search despite the fact they were not even trying to make search work for their users currently.

He added that the search currently on Facebook was related to people trying to find people, brand pages, business pages, apps,etc. and agreed to the fact that there is a big opportunity there and some point of time they will go for it. Zuckerberg also mentioned that  the  company has a team of engineers working on it but cleverly did not disclose the number of engineers in the team.

Analyzing search behavior further, Zuckerberg said that legacy run search engines work on keywords but people basically want answers to their questions and Facebook is quite well equipped to offer those answers like:

“ What sushi restaurants have my friends been to in New York? ”

“ Which friends of mine work at a certain company ?”

If Facebook tries to work out a system to answer such queries then it has a potential to do well for such search queries compared to other search sites. He did not have anything  specific to announce but the intention of working on search was clearly indicated.

With social and search integration  search engines like Google and Bing are trying to work and improve their social media site Google+ and create a win-win situation for themselves  and Facebook on the other hand is trying to work on the search side and improve from the search angle after being the numero uno for social media.

  1. I think facebook should do it, because google's manaoply is not good thing for the future of internet business espeically in search engine field. In previous couple of months google launched a lot of updates regarding searching results, content and link-building and it hurt a lot of websites. If there will be a one or two more competitors in search engine field google will not introduce rapid changes in its algorithm.
